Virgo season is Harvest
This morning the sun moved into the realm of Virgo—the analytical, spectacularly-organized public servant of the zodiac—and your resident Virgo witch is so ready for it.

In the wheel of the year, we’re nearing mid-harvest season. Depending on where you live, summer heat has peaked, and we are in the thick of enjoying the juiciest harvest. Where I live in Washington, tree branches are heavy with fruit; I picked blueberries by the handful in late-July, mid-August is time for apples, and a lovely plum tree in my neighborhood is so close to being ready. It feels lush and abundant.
Virgo season is about honoring the process that gets us our results. First we plant seeds and intentions, then we nurture and toil. Now we get to enjoy the harvest- our hands stained and sticky with berry juice.
To me, Virgo season is also a threshold. It's our portal from summer into fall. As the darker months approach, energies slow down a bit, and we have a chance to breathe and reset. An earth sign, Virgo is concerned with the mundane and the practical. Virgo knows that having systems in place can bring more peace and ease to our lives, and comes in ready to analyze and organize.
So now is the time to get to a project that has been haunting you—clean out your closet, reorganize that spice rack, unsubscribe from all the email spam—do some stock taking, and clear out the literal or mental clutter in your life. If you don’t know where to start, find your friendly neighborhood Virgo, they’ll certainly have opinions for you.
Virgo in the Tarot
Every zodiac sign has a counterpart in the Tarot, and for Virgo it’s The Hermit. Y'all I am obsessed with the Hermit card. And I don't think it's just because it's my sun sign, but because The Hermit is an incredible ally in helping us return home to ourselves.
The Hermit card from Spacious Unknown by Carrie Mallon and Annie Ruygt
Imagery often includes the wise, solitary crone or warlock figure, carrying a lantern through a darkened wood. The lantern is a symbol of our own inner knowing- the spark of our magic that lives within, and never steers us wrong.
The Hermit calls us to go within. To be willing to be guided by Spirit, and to recenter our focus on what the lantern is illuminating right before our feet.
One of the biggest lessons of this card- the hermit’s lantern only illuminates what is immediately before us. It doesn’t show us our destination, or the outcome of the journey we’re on- Spirit says we don’t need to concern ourselves with that. We don’t even need to be concerned with step two or three. Our only concern is this moment before us. And the task at hand is to return home to ourselves- to this moment, to our bodies, to our energy.
When The Hermit comes up in a reading it’s a chance to ask:
Where am I being called to be more solitary, to push off external influence and just listen to my inner voice?
Where am I trying to rush to an end point / see an outcome that isn’t ready to be seen yet - and instead can I recenter and focus on where I am in THIS step.
